Hey, Everybody!!!  Kind of a weird morning today with our power down at the station.  For those of you more that a few miles outside of Norfolk, you couldn't hear us!  Our studio transmitter effectively 'died' yesterday afternoon during Jay's show!  Anyway, it looks like we won't be back up to full power until Tuesday late morning.  We apologize for the inconvenience!!!  Trust me, it stinks for us as well!  

Congratulations to Doug Hank of Carroll for winning the Midwest Laser NASCAR tickets!  Doug's 14 year old daughter has become a race fan so the plans are to take her to her first NASCAR race!  How cool is that?!?!?  

Please listen through the day Monday for your chance to help support the Local Red Cross Chapter in rasing money to go towards the National Disaster Relief Efforts.  The need is great and we all should do our part to help other American's in need.  Right now, the Red Cross is spending 22-million PER DAY feeding hurricane victims!  We need your help!  We'll be at Lou's Thriftyway beginning at 7 Monday morning to take your monetary donations.  Please donate what you can to this huge effort!

Wow...another beautiful day here in NE Nebraska!  We were very lucky to have Jared Tomich with us most of the morning! The former Husker Defensive End who played in 94', 95' and 96' stopped by to talk about the Husker Hog Ride going on this weekend!  It begins at Dillon Brothers Harley Davidson in Omaha at noon this Saturday and goes to the stadium parking lots outside Memorial Stadium for a big party afterwards.  All of the proceeds go to fund the Halo of Hope foundation that sends children with cancer to some amazing summer and winter camps.  Please get your bikes or classic cars and help this amazing cause and hang out with at least 30 Husker players including Tommy Frazier, Grant Wistrom, and Jared Tomich!  Just go to www.huskerhogride.net to register today!

POLITICAL RACE GOING TO THE DOGS (AND CATS)

In the spirit of the presidential election, Smith Brothers has launched a campaign on a topic near and dear to the hearts of all Americans – which pet do we love the most, dogs or cats? In a spirited but light-hearted competition, and we took votes this morning, with the Dogs coming out on top 6-4

.  

If you didn't get to vote, here are the platforms for each animal:

DOGS:  The dog platform is all about hope, change, a clear new path, and squeaky toys. Dog’s high priorities are: a fire hydrant on every corner, disability for working dogs, additional belly rubs, abolishing leash laws, tax breaks for Frisbee manufacturers, equal treats for equal tricks, and expanded car rides.

CATS: The cat platform sees a future bright with promise, opportunities and nice big balls of yarn. Cat’s high priorities are: turning Gitmo into kitty condos, affordable veterinarian care, legalizing catnip, no scratching post left behind, outlawing startlingly loud noises, funding for hairball research, changing the national anthem to “Honky Cat,” and longer naps.

RACE INTO GOOD HEALTH

Bring the kids to the PATCH Health Fair Saturday morning. It's free - the Lifenet Helicopter will be there, along with some racecars for the kids to check out. There will be over 40 vendors and you can stop by the US 92 booth for a free kids ID with a current picture and their thumbprint!

Applebutter Making Day

Dave and his boys picked a boxful of apples last night on their farm.  This is the first year that their apple trees have produced any apples.  He brought them in this morning and we began the process of making applebutter.  Thanks to Leanne from Elgin for her easy crockpot recipe.  Click here for the recipe page.  Now we just have to wait for them to cook down - its supposed to take all day, and then we'll can them.

Mom's Pigskin Picks

Dave's Mom, Jason and Dave are keeping track of their football scores each week.  So far - Dave's loosing with only 3 out of 8 right over the weekend.  Jason and Dave's Mom both got 6 out of 8 correct.  GO MOM!

Apple Butter

Dave has learned he has 3 apple trees on his farm and needs to make something.  On a mission to make apple butter like his grandma used to make we took recommendations and recipes this morning.  It looks like Monday will be apple butter making day at the station....keep listening, we may need your help.

One of the recommendations was to take the apples Bud's Original Honey Butter in Plainview and let them make the apple butter for us.  Emily Rutledge from Bud's called to tell us that they do have new Apple Butter and Apple Cinnamon Butter ... but that is a mixture of butter, honey and flavoring, not apples.
