Go Red Challenge Week 3
Week 3
Healthy Eating: Dining Out Done Right
The third meeting began with a group discussion about what we experienced this week. Sara from the American Heart Association posed the questions “Did you eat out? What choices did you make?”
You can eat wherever you want, you just have to make the right choices:
- Choose a baked potato, lettuce salad or vegetables as sides instead of fried options.
- Look up foods on-line at chain restaurants to see the nutritional information.
- Make a decision about what you are ordering and don’t stare at the menu (cheeseburger and fries will always try to sway you.)
- Becky Brandt shared a book she recently purchased called “Eat This/Not That – restaurant style”
The BetterU program on-line offers a guide to eating out. You can also find tips on making healthy choices, until it becomes second nature (that’s the long-term mission of BetterU.
Workout tip of the week:
The question was raised about what heart rate we should be aiming for to make sure we are being healthy, but also working at a good pace.
Heart Rate Formula: 70% of 220 minus your age will give you the optimal fat burning zone.
Angie’s example: 220-40 = 180. 70% = 126. As she works out, she should try to maintain her heart rate at 126, not much higher or lower to lose weight.
